The Team
It takes a village to create a project such as Newsroom History. It takes smart, enthusiastic, helpful friends to help realize a dream. Here’s the team that worked hard to create this site:
- Casey Frechette is a visiting assistant professor in the journalism and media studies department at the University of South Florida, St. Petersburg and an adjunct with The Poynter Institute. He teaches digital media and researches the role of technology in learning. Casey is a former interactive learning producer with Poynter’s News University. He also produced multimedia at the University of New Mexico. He has degrees in media arts and computer science, with a concentration in digital audio and video production, and organizational learning and instructional technologies.
- Jeremy Gilbert: An assistant professor at Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism and Northwestern’s Segal Design Institute, teaching media product design and digital innovation. He has directed award-winning, student-based digital projects and helped revamp the interactive curriculum. He created the first interdisciplinary journalism and computer science classes, helped found the Medill, McCormick Center for Innovation in Technology, Media, and Journalism and launch the Knight News Innovation Lab. In addition to teaching, he is researching the future of human-centered news design, especially tools for the creation, consumption and distribution of journalism on mobile devices, tablets and web-based media applications. Before coming to Medill, he led The Poynter Institute’s website redesign and worked as a design director, redesigning a pair of award-winning Florida newspapers.
- Emma Lehmann is a third year journalism student at Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism. She intends to graduate in the spring of 2014 with a double degree in journalism and English literature.
- Howard Finberg has been in journalism for 40 years. His resume includes positions with the Chicago Tribune, The New York Times, the San Francisco Chronicle and The Arizona Republic. He was the Presidential Scholar at Poynter in 2002 and joined Poynter full-time in 2003 to create and lead its e-learning project, News University. In 2012 he became the Institute’s Director of Partnerships and Alliances. His Twitter account is @Hif or you can find him on LinkedIn: www.linkedin.com/in/hfinberg/
